Canandaigua Lake Kickback Connection with Houston

Located on the beautiful and enticing Canandaigua Lake, and surrounded by luxurious waterfront mansions with tennis courts and expansive manicured lawns, you will find the luxurious 5350 ft sq foot home recently taken by the US Marshals in relation to a large kickback trial, that took place in Houston.  This home has recently been sold to Kenneth Hale, CEO of Dansville Dental Professionals LLC for $2,900,000.00 . Yes you read that correctly.  This magnificent waterfront mansion was valued at $2.3 million, listed for $2.6 million and sold for $2.9 million dollars.  Definitely not your standard sale statistic where most homes achieve under 90 % of asking price.

According to the Houston Chronicle , Clyde Meltzer and Bernard Langley pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in lieu of the 10 counts originally charged against them in a huge and short lived profitable kickback scheme they controlled, ranging from wire fraud to money laundering.  They were working with Jonathan Barnes, a resident of Bellaire Texas and owner of the 5705 Applewood Dr home on Canandaigua Lake.  With Barne’s help, Meltzer and Langley were able to overcharge LyondellBasell for shipping oil form Venezuela to U.S. refineries and then keeping the difference, estimated at over $58 million dollars, the amount of restitution prosecutors are attempting to collect.

Barnes was an employee of LyonellBasell.  When the company changed ownership, an internal audit was prepared and this is when the overcharges were discovered. Findings were then turned over to the Justice Dept.

Barnes agreed to cooperate with investigators and wore a recording device that captured numerous conversations including that of the overcharging scheme the three were involved in.

Agents raided Meltzer and Langleys company and seized millions of dollars in cash, cars such as a 1957 Cadillac owned by Frank Sinatra, a $500,000 limited edition McLaren, jewelry and of course the 5705 Applewood Dr home located on Canandaigua Lake.
