Campfires at the Lake – The Swedish Log Candle !

One of the most requested items on a checklist for vacation rentals on the Finger Lakes, is a campfire area.  After a long day on the water, with cooler temperatures creeping in for the night, families love to sit around a fire by the lake to just sit and chat, with conversations covering the days activities, to favorite stories from vacations gone by.  It is a bonding place.  It is where memories are created and ingrained.  It is a place for laughter and for those cool nights a place to gather a little extra warmth before calling it a day.

So when we think of campfires we think of a stack of wood burning in the middle of the pit.  Some things have changed and some owners now have gas flamed fire pits.  They are a little more formal, much less work and cleaner.

Most vacationers still feel better with a home-made fire pit.  I came across this option on the internet and wanted to share it with you.  It is called a Swedish Log Candle.  It is definitely a conversation starter.  You can find instructions at Survivaltek.com a site that  I would say is dedicated to those that like the great outdoors.

You only need one log to get started, but you will need a chainsaw.  Take a look at the finished product.

Let me know what you think and if you have tried one of these fires.  I would love to hear from you.

Lloyd’s Limited Is For Sale – a Favorite For Keuka Lake Visitors

I would  like to think that I stay on top of changes in Penn Yan and the Keuka Lake area. Imagine my surprise, to find out that one of my favorite places in Penn Yan has been for sale since October of 2011, and I am a Realtor here.  ( That is what I consider a marketing issue – after this blog, many more will  now know it is for sale  )   It is listed for sale for $829,000 and is a favorite business and Main St staple in Penn Yan.

Lloyds is a great place to stop in and grab a quick pub style meal with a beer or a drink.  ( Lloyds has a HUGE selection for beer lovers.) Bob always has a great selection for meal specials as well.  You just never know what you will find to tempt you besides the usual bar fare.  Grab a booth, bring some friends, order some food and drinks and sit back to enjoy the ambience of the setting with your friends.

Like most home towns, there are always favorite “watering holes” and Lloyds is one of those places where home town visitors tend to congregate when back in town.  After all, what is better than good friends, conversation, drinks and food?

Lloyd’s Limited is located at 3 Main St in Penn Yan, NY.  Whether you are new or old to Keuka Lake, visiting, purchasing lakefront and looking for a place to grab a quick drink and food, or better yet, looking for a great investment to purchase – Lloyd’s is here for you.

For more information about purchasing this establishment contact anyone of us at Wine Trail Properties 315-719-8377.  MLS info supplied by GRAR.

Keuka Lake Photo Requests

OK I am always posting great pics, showing you homes, talking about trends and rumors.  Now I am asking for your help.  I would love my readers to send in some of their favorite Keuka Lake photos.  The photos can be of anything such as mailboxes, docks, boats, people vineyards and so on.  Be creative and I will be sure to give you credit for your photos.  The amount of entries I receive will dictate what I do with all of the photos, (maybe a little contest) or maybe I will attempt to blog about the subject in the photo.

So go ahead and put me to the task.  I am ready willing and able to share your photos and give a little insight to them.

You can send your photos to: lakefrontmary@gmail.com  I look forward to them !

Loomis Barn – A Great Furniture And Gift Store In The Middle Of Nowhere

Having lived in the area for over 23 years I am very familiar with the Loomis Barn, a great furniture store that has expanded into gift, a wonderful and delightful cafe that prepares everything homemade,  and even a maple sugar shack.  I dropped in the other day on my way back from an appointment just to get some ideas for my home when I heard a conversation between a gentleman and the store owner.  He was sharing how he did not realize they were there.  ” I was just driving down the road and wow here is a business in the middle of nowhere.”

That statement is quite common, because the business really is in the middle of nowhere.  You drive down a road dotted with farms and if you do not notice the sign out front, you could drive right by.  Many in the area do not know what the Loomis Barn is or what they sell.

Time to do some browsing – it is great to have shops like this.  Go with a friend      and  stop in at the cafe for a fresh bite to eat.
