Last year was a record fail on Keuka Lake when it comes to ice, it never came. This year because of the hiatus last year, the ice fishermen and women were biting at the bit to get out there with the first signs of ice. When the ice came, it spread fast, causing a whole new frenzy of activities. They were back ( including me). They came out to fish (mostly), they cleared patches of snow on the ice to ice skate, they came out to walk and like me they brought their dogs out on the ice, so that they could run around freely without the worry of cars.
Ice fishing is an entire subset of fishing. Some folks will only ice fish. Keuka Lake is not like some of the other winter areas where the lakes freeze for the entire season and complete villages pop up. But it does enjoy the portable fishing life with the colorful little huts, red and orange flags from the pop ups and colorful sleds to pull the gear around.
You will see people out on the ice with augers ( they drill a hole in the ice ) both manual and gas-fired. That is where they will drop their lines in to catch fish. Some folks will sit out in the sun on lawn chairs and others will bring their cute little pop-up tents that will protect them from the elements.
The colors of the apparatus brightens up the grayness of the day.
Sometimes the fishermen and women are successful and can go home with the night’s dinner.
If you would like to find your vacation/get-a-way home to enjoy both Summer and Winter activities, just contact me via email, text or phone. I look forward to hearing from you. Now off to see what is going on, on Keuka Lake !
You will most likely run into someone you know, yes even on the ice !

In writing my blog, I am like anyone else. I have typos, the misuse of grammar and sometimes information that does not present itself in the correct manner. Some of the information is from public documents or portals and some of the information is from my opinions or has been accumulated from statistical measures that I have put together.
I try to take my own pictures or use ones available to the public, or even sometimes purchase pictures. When the pictures are not mine, I try to give credit to the photographer when known. Of course this is not always possible.
If any information gets out on my blog that contains errors, I will indeed make the corrections. I am far from perfect and even the best newspapers and journals end up printing errors after numerous runs by editors. I always have my contact information loud and clear on my blog so that anyone with a concern can contact me.
So if I have offended anyone – I really am sorry and apologize for my short comings. I want my blog to be informative and interesting.
I will attempt to do a better job of making less errors in 2013.

The best reason that I love selling real estate in the Finger Lakes, is all about the great people I meet. They come from all walks of life and come from all over the country and even the world. Getting to know their motivations for coming to the area are also unique to each person. I have become friends with many of them, even going on trips or just stopping by to enjoy a glass of Finger Lakes wine.
Many are attracted to the area for its multitude of wineries, others for the pristine lakes, some for both reasons. But for some it means the ability to get away from their busy lives and blend in with the locals. All of these folks have great stories to tell as they come from different cultures, different cities and different backgrounds. What is great about all of them, is that when it comes to looking for properties, they are all just regular people.
Since most of my clients are looking for the perfect vacation home, there usually is no urgency. Because of the laid back approach to looking for a lake home, I have worked with some clients for a few years before finding the right property. This really allows me to get to know the person that they are.
Some buyers have a specific lake in mind. They want Keuka Lake, or Seneca Lake or even Skaneateles Lake. Others are looking at some of the smaller and more affordable lakes. I just love picking up the phone to hear ” I am looking to purchase a home on Keuka Lake.” or any of the other lakes.
I love meeting new people and my career is just perfect for that reason.
Reason # 2
The homes that I have been able to see whether via my sellers or the countless ones that I brought my buyers through, are just amazing. I get to see new homes, old homes, refurbished home, cobblestone classics, vintage cottages, churches refurbished into residential homes, barns disguising very interesting living quarters and everything in between. I live in my own Better Homes and Gardens. I am able to see bare bunk houses and then compare them to the unique designs of some very creatively finished bunk houses. Since many of these homes are high-end, I also enjoy seeing what their designers have come up with. So to see the newest or trendiest styles in home design and decor, I need to go no further than the next home I will be showing. Some of these homes have actually been featured in major magazines for the combination of their decor and location.
If you would like me to assist you in finding your perfect vacation home, just contact me. I would love to meet you !
