Thom Filicia’s Skaneateles Lake House

Every once in a while even after you believe you found all of the correct info for a story, you find out likewise.  I would like to thank the wonderful person who has assisted me in corrected the original information contained in this blog.  I have made corrections in a different color.  It ended up that some of the pictures came from John Walsh’s home, also located on Skaneateles Lake and of course we all know John from the “Adam Walsh Foundation” and “Americas Most Wanted”.

Thom did help  with a fundraiser for the Historical Society by opening up his home for a tour.  You can read the article by clicking on the link  Skaneateles Press.

Once someone discovers the Finger Lakes, either through visiting the area or just being raised in the area, they tend to come back even if only seasonally.  This is true of Thom Felicia a well know designer, most notably from the Bravo TV series “Queer Eye For The Straight Guy”

We are going to show you a bit of Thom’s lakeside home,  a place where he can get away to with his two dogs and boyfriend from the hustle and bustle of his city living lifestyle.

His well styled lakefront home is located on Skaneateles Lake, one of the Finger Lakes in Upstate New York.  It is also the lake that President Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton love to visit friends at.

The interior shot of Thom’s home when he purchased it.  We can only imagine what wonderful things he did to turn this room around.

For some, the lakefront is minimal but it packs a punch with its style. It is all about the design and the design is warm and welcoming.

The home to  the right actually belongs to John Walsh but Thom did do the design work for him and John Walsh’s home is just down the road from Thom’s.  The home above is the actual home that Thom purchased and shows the way it looked when he purchased it.

The interior is stylish with its natural elements, but of course it is the lakeside that draws you.

Now doesn’t Thom look happy on his boat with his dog Paco?  Most of these photos you see are courtesy of Jonny Valiant.

Thom was gracious enough to show his lakefront home in 2011 in a local home tour that raised money for the local Historical Society.

See above to link to the article. If you are in the market for a great lakefront property in the Finger Lakes on Keuka Lake, Seneca Lake, Canandaigua Lake, Cayuga Lake or even Skaneateles Lake, give me a call.  We can find the perfect vintage or luxury lakefront home for you.

Canandaigua Lake “Cross” House

As a Realtor, we view a lot of homes via an aerial view and for many reasons. Sometimes our buyers want to know the lay of the land or how densely populated the area is.  During these viewings we come across some interesting shapes of homes as seen from the air.

Do you see the shape of the cross ?  This home is owned by the Robert Wegman family.  Mr Wegman was very involved with the Catholic church in Rochester, NY and was responsible for many generous donations to the Catholic Church and its schools.  So it only makes sense that the roof line would be in the shape of a cross.

Robert Wegman was also the father of Danny Wegman who helped make the Wegman name well known all over the country for its innovative approach in grocery merchandising and for being a top 100 place to work.

The Wegman family owns many properties on Canandaigua Lake, but this is my favorite.  It is easily spotted when flying overhead.

If you are looking to own a lakefront property on Canandaigua Lake with a similar luxury setting, then give me a call.  Offerings of properties similar to these are few and far between, but I can let you now when one becomes available allowing you to act fast.

Barn Living with Keuka Lake Views

When I first heard that someone lived in this barn, I did not believe what I was hearing or seeing.   Actually when I first saw the barn, the barn doors were open and all you could see were gardening tools and then a very rustic looking door. Even then I could not imagine that there could be living quarters behind that door.  It was such an amazing space.  The shape of the barn successfully disguises the living area, which encompasses mostly the back-end of the barn. The barn has an el on one side and an addition on the other, which creates a nice enclosure.  If you are sitting out on the deck just off of the kitchen, you don’t have the slightest feeling of being in a barn.   From the deck you also gt a nice view of Keuka Lake as well as a garden area and vineyards.  The owners just love their converted barn and are quite happy living inconspicuously.
