The Once Again Shop In Penn Yan –

I am fortunate to live in a relatively small town just outside of the Village Of Penn Yan in Yates County ( On the North end of Keuka Lake ).  It may be small but the people are large at heart.  This community comes together to assist many underprivileged families through clothing, housing and food.  One of the assets the community offers is “The Once Again Shop” a well-known thrift shop in Penn Yan.  Stroll through the  doors and you walk into a treasure chest.  Everything inside of this building has been donated through the generosity of many.  Browsers can find clothing, furniture, knick-knacks and everything in between all priced quite reasonably.  In fact buyers can fill up a plastic garbage bag with unpriced clothes, all for $5.00.  If the buyer needs linens, then a bag will cost $6.oo.  It has become the shopping place for many in need and the treasure trove for those looking for something they can leave with as a “great find”.

To keep the place running, many ,many volunteers are required.  There are sorters, cashiers, and even those that try to fix some of the items that are dropped off.  There are even administrative volunteers that make sure there are enough volunteers for each day.

The money that is raised is split up between the various churches in the community, so that they can best serve their respective members.

The shop is open from Wednesday through Sat from 10 Am until 4 PM. Saturdays during the summer the shop closes at 1PM.  Items can be dropped off on Mon and Tues preferably and for those donating large items, a phone call is preferred first.   They are always looking for volunteers.

100 East Elm Street  Penn Yan, NY 14527

If you are in the area vacationing and looking for something to do, stop in.  You might be surprised at what you can find. It is also a great place to leave those items you no longer need.  Re-use and re-purpose will allow someone else to gain some enjoyment from those pieces.

Will The “Travolta” House Ever Sell ? On Keuka Lake ?

The lakefront home on Keuka Lake that became known as the house John Travolta purchased ( but did not) is still on the market since June of 2009.  Of course it is not unusual for a home of this caliber to be on the market so long.  The original asking price was $2,500,000.  This home was built and designed for entertaining as you will see in the following photos.

Guests can enjoy the outdoor lap pool and bar on the patio or they can head to the dock where they will find multiple outdoor serving areas. The dock has plenty of space for your guests to arrive by boat.

This is one of the largest lakeside decks that I have seen on Keuka Lake.  There are bars located everywhere in the home as well  as outside in key locations. Even the dock is illuminated very colorfully so that it can easily be seen at night.

Now lets stop inside – the living is room sports a sleek black marble wall.

Or how about waking up to refreshing views of Keuka Lake ?

For more information on this interesting 3 bedroom 5 bedroom lakefront home with 190 feet of lakefront on the highly desirable Keuka Lake complete with heated driveway for slippery weather and exercise room, contact me via phone, text or email.  This home is looking for the right buyer, someone who enjoys entertaining and has extravagant taste.  The home is currently offered at $1,900,000.

Information supplied for this listing by the GRAR via Sbarra& Wells Century 21 ,  This home has been listed for sale since 2009.

Keuka Lake Market Update For July 2012

Currently there are 91 properties available on Keuka Lake for sale with an average price of  $539,269.   The most expensive listing is priced at $2,200,000 and the least expensive property is listed for $89,000.

The average days on market is 195 days. – To see all of the properties available for sale on Keuka Lake, just click on Keuka Lake.

The properties range from a mobile home with shared access lakefront to  multi acre property with multiple structures.  There has been some encouraging news for the lakefront properties on Keuka Lake for sale.  Sellers must be feeling good, since three of the listings have raised their selling price.

Not sure if it has been the excessive heat wave we are experiencing this year or the market is indeed looking up.  Since many of the lakefront homes for sale, are second homes for many, they do not represent the general housing market when it comes to statistics of housing sales.  A large portion of these buyers purchase as a vacation or investment property, making them optional purchases.

What ever your reason to purchase a lakefront home on Keuka Lake, please give us a call and we can help you define and purchase the perfect lakefront property for your needs.  There is still plenty of time to enjoy!

Fresh Traveler Takes On Keuka Lake

Fresh Traveler is one of 5 rally teams crossing the country for Rand McNally and USA Today .  They most recently have been in the Finger Lakes area and have been spotted in Corning and on Seneca Lake for the Cardboard Regatta.  Then they decided to take out a jet ski and zip around Keuka Lake.

These teams are looking for “the most fun small town” in the US.

We already know Hammondsport ( on Keuka Lake ) is the “Coolest Small Town” and Hammondsport spent the last few days celebrating with parades, fireworks, food, wine and beer.  Hopefully the girls found some time to make it for the celebrations.

It is always fun to see someone discover our area for the first time.

Hammondsport – Keuka Lake – The “Coolest Small Town” In America Celebrates June 30th, 2012

Mark your calendars for June 30th, 2012 for of the best events on Keuka Lake this year.

Join us on June 30th from Noon ~ 6pm for the

“Coolest Small Town in America” Celebration!

Hammondsport is inviting everyone near and far to come and celebrate with them, their newest designation “The Coolest Small Town” in America.

Ok , actually they share that designation with Beaufort, NC in a contest sponsored by Budget Travel.  It was a well publicized contest that sent their server into a tizzy and actually caused it to crash.  And that is besides the point.  Hammondsport will be celebrating as if they were the only number one coolest place, just as we believe they are.

Hammondsport sits at the South end of Keuka Lake, and is known for its delightful proximity to wine and water.  The water graces its shores and the vineyards sweep up into the hills offering some of the most beautiful and panoramic views from many vantage points.    This is part of the second largest wine-producing area in the country, the Finger Lakes.  To add to the ambience of Keuka Lake and the renowned wineries, you will find mouth-watering restaurants serving up delectable delights, breweries that serve up craft ales, fun gift shops to browse, antiques and the Curtiss Museum.

There will be food, fun, music and fireworks.  For age appropriate adults there will be a beer and wine tent offering local beer and wines.  For more information visit the Hammondsport Chamber of Commerce page and we hope to see you there !
